BEST IN SHOW REPORT REFEREE LIZ BRAILSFORD

Discussion has long been held re the challenge of choosing BIS between two separate sexes before giving a BOB, marginally less fair is choosing between two separate breeds, in this case the male Miniature Bull Terrier and female bull terrier. Well done to both judges for sticking to their own breed choice. On the day BIS had to go to the mini Harper’s Chattanooga Choo Aedestaurum for his more complete example of the breed standard, leaving the Twymans’ Laronbelle Serpentine at eight months to enjoy another day

Firstly I would like to thank the committee at EABTC for inviting me to judge the Miniature Bull Terriers, the show was wonderful and welcoming with a fantastic atmosphere and beautiful prizes for the winners. Thanks also to both of my stewards for being helpful throughout and making me feel at ease as I was ever so nervous to start with!
Finally, thanks to all who entered under me.  The dogs were turned-out beautifully and in excellent condition.  I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to judge such wonderful, quality dogs and look forward to seeing them in the ring again.

1st CH BULLYON BACK TO THE MEASURE (MR & MRS M B PHILLIPS)
9 years old Lovely, black brindle and white dog.  Great for size and with a correct mouth, still in excellent condition for his age Ears were correctly placed, with lovely sweeping arc and turn, would have liked just a little more width and fill.  Fabulous short back and lovely second thigh, moving well behind with a lovely straight front.  He was a real showman clearly still enjoying his turn in the ring.

1st BYZANTINE BOHEMIAN (MRS A SMITH)
Well constructed brindle and white bitch with a lovely profile, width, fill and a correct mouth.  A little over the measure but extremely typy and full of quality, very well balanced with good tail carriage.  She had strong movement behind that will only improve with age, and an excellent straight front.  I was thrilled to award her BP & BOS, going to compete against the Bull Terrier and winning BPIS and RBIS.  I really look forward to watching the rest of her show career.  BP, BOS, BPIS, RBIS
2nd ABGAR MYSTIQUE AT UNIONBUL (MR S COVERDALE)
Quality Black brindle and white bitch small, compact and well put together with a correct mouth. Moving well behind with a lovely straight front.  Not the head of the winner, needing just a little more width and fill.
3rd MERLINDAN FUNACE (MS & MR S & P HAKALA & KERSHAW)
Very attractive Brindle and white bitch.  Quality, feminine head with a correct mouth but not the strength of 1 & 2.  Lovely bone and substance with correct make and shape, strong quarters and well-defined second thigh, moving well behind.

Probably my most difficult class, having to work hard to separate two beautiful competitors, I think both will have an excellent and exciting show career and look forward to watching them both throughout.
1st BYZANTINE BAKCHOS (MR L CRAWFORD)
Beautiful upstanding white dog with black mismark.  Wicked expression, great width and fill, excellent profile and correct mouth.  Slightly over the measure but very well balanced and constructed with good quarters and correct tail carriage.  He moved well behind, with an excellent front and lovely bone, he does still have some maturing to do.
2nd RASELS BULL TRACEY OF BULLYON (NAF TAF) (MR & MRS M B PHILLIPS)
Extremely eye-catching and a real mini.  Brindle and white bitch with a beautiful sweeping profile, an abundance of width and fill with a keen expression, sadly two in-standing canines but still pushed hard for the class.  Good reach of neck, would like better lay of shoulder, moving well behind when settled.  She still has some maturing left to do but I am sure will continue to improve.

1st CHATTANOOBA CHOO CHOO AEDESTAURUM (MR J HARPER) BD BOB BIS
I love this dog every time I see him.  He is a striking red, good for size with excellent bone and is extremely masculine, well put together, compact and so typy.  Correct profile with excellent width and so much fill, his expression is so wicked with wonderful dark eyes - mouth is a full reverse.  He moves well behind with a lovely second thigh and straight front.  I was absolutely thrilled to award him BD BOB BIS
2nd MERLINDAN FLASHBACK (MR & MRS D J MCGREGOR)
Smart and well-constructed black brindle and white dog.  Masculine head with good profile, width, fill and correct mouth.  Shapely quarters and straight front, moving well both ways.
