I was absolutely thrilled to be invited to judge my first set of CCs at the Southern Miniature Bull Terrier Club. Judging Minis is always a challenge and I had to think long and hard about what it was that I deem virtues and try to find dogs which embodied the majority of those virtues for me. I am very grateful for the excellent entry of 50 with few absentees and for the exhibitors who came out to give me the opportunity to go over their lovely dogs.

1st DECADANCE DANDINI (MR & MRS D DANCE) 
White dog puppy, 8 months. Oozes breed type and masculinity. Substantial and balanced. Short back and with plenty of round bone. Straight front with good lay of shoulder and width of loin. Good rear angulation. Fabulous head with excellent expression, small keen eye. Unbroken profile, head packed right up and turned with finish. Minor mouth fault. Moved true both ways and held topline for the few moments he settled to show his true movement. Very nice baby.  BP
2nd MIDGET BONSAI VON AMADIS (ATCAT01403DEU) (MRS D BROMMANT-LOTHARY)
Black brindle dog, 7 months. Another nice one. Small, typy puppy. Great finish with less fill than 1, but neat ears and good eye. Good body shape, but would prefer better lay of shoulder and a little shorter in the back. Moved a little wide coming, but OK behind. A neat and tidy young man

Brindle dog, 8 months litter brother to winner above. Full of substance. Power packed head, keen eye, prefer neater ears, but plenty of muzzle pack. Mouth acceptable, correct bite. Would prefer better shoulder, but did hold topline on move. Short back, plenty of bone

Black brindle dog, 15 months. Over the measure. Heavyweight bull type. Massive bone, short back. Good lay of shoulder and well angulated behind. Mouth fault, but correct bite. Super expression on power packed head. Just preferred the type of 1

1st LAFENICE TAMINO OF CALIBER (MS &MR & MRS A & W & C PEACHER & LAMBERT)
Brindle and white dog, 4 years. Ultra typy cobby little dog, good for size. Super power-packed head and perfect mouth. Loads of bone, best of feet, neatest of ears. Would prefer a better shoulder but good width of loin and good rear angulation. Overall package of virtues took the class
2nd LAFENICE JOEY TRIBIANI (MISS K A LEWIS)
White dog, 2 years. Lovely white quality boy whom I have admired from ringside. Super head with downface and finish. Not the power pack of 1. Neat ears and very typy. Over the measure. Long neck into good shoulder. Lovely neat feet. Slightly high tail set, but moved well both ways with drive. Mouth fault

White dog, 3 years. Substantially over the measure. Well made throughout. Would prefer shorter back. Tremendous bone, excellent feet. Superb head and expression. Minor mouth fault. Moved well both ways. A virtuous dog who just tipped my size preference.

1st CH DEBULLY SHOOTING STAR (MR & MRS C & G DOBBIN)
Red and white dog, 2 years. Eye catching, uber masculine red dog. Had just what I was looking for today. Super substance, make and shape with lovely deep chest and short back and correct tail set. Neat feet. Fabulous head, with power, turn and finish and the relatively rare width and power of muzzle. Neat ears and perfect mouth. Moved as I expected with power and drive. Over the measure, but not excessively so. Very much enjoyed going over him. DCC BIS
2nd GRANDOPERA DIDIER DROGBA OF CALIBER (MR & MRS W & C LAMBERT)
Brindle and white dog, 4 years. Different, more terrier type to 1, but quality and balanced with short back. Well put together all round with good shoulder and rear angulation. Masculine, longer head than 1, with fill and turn. Would prefer keener eye, but neat ears giving good expression. Over the measure but not hugely. Moved OK both ways. Minor mouth fault. Just referred the overall package of 1, but whose quality and make and shape demanded my attention. RDCC

White dog, 10 years. Still delighted to be in the ring, like the champion he is and showing his little socks off today. Super short coupled dog of good size and loving his day out. Credit to his owner

Black brindle dog, 8 years. Lovely neat little dog. Super bone and in fabulous condition. Tiny neat ears and moved well both ways. Lovely to see both out in the ring.

Brindle and white bitch, 6 months. Longer head than 1, but not the pack and fill. Would prefer better lay of shoulder and preferred the bone of 1

The most difficult class, all four very strong, really splitting hairs, but substance and make and shape swung it for me.
1st BULLFORTIS BLAZING STAR (MR & MISS D & A CONNOLLY & GOURLEY) 
Caught my eye immediately. 10 months. Classically elegant white bitch with double brindle eye patches. Good bone for size. Fabulous gun barrel front and forechest with correct lay of shoulder including a decent length of upper arm. Lovely feminine head with fill up under eyes, piecing expression, topped off with a perfect mouth. Would prefer neater ears. Moved to perfection both ways, striding out with power which earned her the Joanne Cup for Best Movement. One to watch. RBCC
2nd BADLESMERE BLACKSTAR (MR & MRS P & N DRAPER)
Brindle and white bitch. 10 months. Another quality substantial bitch with plenty of bone. A little longer set than 1, but overall correct, with good fill and expression. Keen eye and good ears. Perfect mouth. Super straight front with good angulations throughout. Moved well both well both ways

Brindle and white bitch, 22 months. Super typy Mini girl who really ‘fits in the box’. Feminine, totally balanced. Super short back with excellent round bone. Straight front. Best of feet. Carries tail a little high, but good quarters. On the measure. Lovely neat unexaggerated head with gentle downface and fill, and neat little ears. Perfect mouth. Moved reasonably both ways. BCC

Another very smart young lady. Brindle and white. 14 months. Powerful head. Slightly over the measure. Would prefer slightly keener eye. Mouth OK. Slightly longer set than 1, but plenty of substance and moved reasonably both ways;

Perfect mouth. Virtuous young lady who showed her socks off

Another small typy bitch. Black brindle and white. 17 months. Just lost out on 1 to substance. Slightly long cast and would prefer better lay of shoulder. However, good rear angulation and tailset. Pretty feminine head, with good fill and gentle turn. Perfect mouth

Solid brindle bitch. 2 years. Quality, typy girl. Very neat and tidy. Just over measure. Plenty of substance with good lay of shoulder and rear angulation. Straight front. Moved reasonably both ways. Mouth fault, but her virtues carried her through. Good head with fill and gentle downturn. Pushed hard in the challenge
2nd BULLYPINS MYSTIQUE INTO LARONBELLE (MISS & MR A & A GARDNER & TWYMAN)
Black brindle and white bitch. 4 years. Over the measure, but good for make and shape. Lovely length of neck into good shoulder and rear angulation with good tail set. Would prefer slightly shorter in the back. Lacked the substance of one. Pretty, feminine head with perfect mouth. Would prefer more fill. Moved well both ways and showed as usual, with verve

White bitch. 8 years. Good for size and substance. Nice front and rear angulation. Nicely made throughout and has a correct bite with pretty much all her teeth! Lacks a little in fill of head, but a lovely old lady, enjoying her time to show off.
