I was delighted to be asked to judge the SMBTC Open Show. Congratulations must go to the hard working and enthusiastic committee and members for finally obtaining KC recognition and with their first Championship Show last year. Thank you to my steward and for the delicious lunch. Grateful thanks for my gift and to all the exhibitors for their appreciation of some very close decisions. If I were to compile a list of words for the entire realm of dogs and dog breeding, then 'breed type' would most certainly have to head the list. A person's picture of ideal type is constantly honed and refined by having that picture compared to many dogs. Seeing a good specimen of the breed once will not do the trick. Comparisons over the years help the eye become aware of deviations of the ideal, no matter how subtle these deviations maybe. Achieving any great success in breeding dogs without an understanding of 'breed type' is impossible.

6 months, white. Litter brother of previous class winner. Good length of head, nice eye and ear set. Correct bite. Again, the same applies, needs time to mature and gain body.
2nd GRAYMOR GALLIC CHIVALRY (MR & MRS G A HUGHES)
10 months, black brindle and white. Super boy, having a long head with fill and masculinity. Well set ears and correct mouth. Well made with good bone. Such a shame he was completely overwhelmed by his surroundings. A dog worth persevering with.

Black brindle and white of good type. Strong masculine head, neat ears. Slight mouth fault. Short back with enough bone and substance for size. Better moving in the rear than front. Loses topline on the move. Shown and handled well. RBD
2nd LAFENICE JOEY TRIBIANI (MISS K A LEWIS)
White. Lovely boy, good head having correct eye and ear set. Mouth fault. Good front, moved well but tends to carry his tail a little high.

Red and white. Masculine and sturdy. Super head having profile, fill, width and power. Top size. Short back with super bone. However, is short in upper arm and tends to raise his tail on the move which detracts from his virtues. Good mover with strong hind quarters. BD

Brindle and white. Tall but handsome. Lovely long head with fill and profile. Mouth fault. Good reach of neck. Good firm body with straight front. Moved well.

Brindle and white. Long head with fill. Mouth fault. Super eye and ear set. Smaller and lighter in bone than 1. Lovely straight front. Moved and handled well.

11½ years, white. Quality bitch full of breed type. Long feminine head which is filled, neat ears. Correct mouth. Plenty of bone and substance for size. Indeed a little heavy, but, at her age can be forgiven.

7½ years, red and white. Compact and in super condition. Gentle sweep of head, filled with correct mouth. Bone and substance in plenty. Best mover in class.

9 months, black brindle and white. Small, sturdy and full of breed type. Gentle sweep of head but could do with more profile. Strong muzzle and good underjaw. Lovely large teeth which are correct. Little light in bone and could be a shade shorter. Moved well in front, not so good behind. Presented and handled to perfection, she is the ultimate show girl, never takes her eyes off the handler. Her breed type won her RBB BP RBOB BPIS
2nd UKUSA MALEFICIENT (MR & MRS G & A NEWBERRY)
11 months, black brindle and white. Close decision between 1 & 2 here. Very feminine with plenty of breed type. Long head with gentle profile and fill. Well placed ears and correct mouth. Could be a shade shorter. A pity she was rather unsettled on the table so could not assess her properly. Moved OK when settled. Needs to mature and really body up to complete picture.

Brindle. Just out of puppy, this young bitch oozes breed type. Head is long and feminine with a gentle sweep from the top of her head to the tip of her nose. Nothing overdone. Viewed from the front has small neat ears bang on top. Straight front and legs. Could be a shade shorter. To complete the picture a little more angulation and body. Rather excitable on the move but when her handler got her attention she moved well. BB BOB RBIS

Black brindle. Lots to like. Long head with fill and profile. Correct bite. Nice in outline and good for size. Needs to mature, one to watch.

White. Upstanding girl with good head shape which is filled. Lovely make and shape. Good turn of stifle and a good mover.

Red and white. Attractive and nicely marked. Shown in excellent condition with gleaming coat. Gentle sweep of head with fill. Beautiful large correct teeth. Compact body with plenty of bone and substance for size. Showed a little flat, but picked up enough enthusiasm to win the class. Good mover.

Brindle. Pretty bitch, good for size. Light in bone and substance. Gentle sweep of head but could do with a shade more muzzle. Correct bite. Well placed ears. Handled well and moved OK

11 months White bitch, head has good profile would like a little more fill. Erect ears, with a keen eye, mouth ok.
Good reach of neck into well laid back shoulders. Straight front. Level top line, tad long cast in back, tail set ok. Good bend of stifle moved a little close behind. Just coming out of puppy, needs time to mature. RBB BP

Big upstanding white 5 years old. Powerful filled head well placed ears, good mouth. Good reach of neck, straight front, and deep brisket. Good spring of rib. Well placed shoulders with level top line, correct roach over loins, correct tail set, strong rear angulation, giving good drive, covered the ground well and moved freely. Neat feet. BD BOB and also awarded him BIS. When he came up against the BOB miniature BT, which mini judge Mary Llewellyn and myself both agreed on. BD BOB BIS
2nd SHACADIA'S BLACK MAMBA AT LOUWAB (MR & MRS G J & S E HEARD)
Nice solid brindle dog, like most solids needs more bone. Gentle profile, ears on top, mouth ok, shoulders ok, good top line, would like more bend of stifle and power to rear quarters, moved ok.
