BP SANGULIANO MR BIG
Thank you to the exhibitors for their entries and to my two stewards for their hard work in keeping the ring flowing. Overall observations are that in attempting to compare the dogs present with the standard was not an easy task. Three aspects stood out which need addressing by breeders who cannot sit back and be complacent. Size, tails and mouths. What makes the Miniature version different from the standard Bull Terrier should be the size. I would estimate that 98% of those present measure more than 14”. Tails are supposed to be held horizontal, yet even after making allowance for being outside, excited and happy, most tails were held absolutely vertical on the move. As for mouths, I was shocked. Surely the bite in a Terrier breed is important to be fit for function. Several wry mouths, overshot bites, undershot bites, level bites and jumbled teeth – thankfully some good scissor bites were also found – but not necessarily in the best constructed or best moving dogs. So compromises had to be made. Overall I felt that the bitches had more quality than the males.

1st SANGULIANO MR BIG (MRS DEBBIE BRYON)

7 months old happy and bouncy Tri dog at his first outdoor show and, being an inquisitive fellow, he could not resist smelling every blade of grass. Ex width for his height and straight forelegs with neat well arched toes. Well balanced with a firm body and holding his topline well. Ex tail set on. Egg shaped head with dark triangular eyes. Several teeth a little jumbled, however, I was to encounter far worse during the day. His handler did her best to gain his attention and he did manage enough strides with his head up to be able to assess his movement. He scored well in his front movement and his rear was strong with parallel hocks. Shows ex potential and handler now just needs to train him to move straight on a loose lead with head up and she should have lots of fun with him. Won BD. BPD. BJD all based on his overall appeal in size, balance and movement. BOS.BPIB. Best Junior.

1st PHUNSIZE DIVO CATO WITH KILTONTHORPE (MRS E M WOODS)

A four year old chemically castrated dog who is full of energy and giving his handler a challenging time in the ring with his boisterous attitude. I liked his spirited but friendly temperament. Well made all through with an OK bite. Good width in front, ex depth of brisket with well- turned stifles. Excellent example of how to get the best from your dog by training it to move on a loose lead rather than stringing it up. RBD.

1st CHATTANOOBA CHOO CHOO AEDESTAURUM (MRS J A HARPER)

Well up to size and a little undershot in bite. Nicely shaped headpiece. Straight forelegs and holding a good topline. Ex spring of rib and good firm body. Disappointed in his rear movement where lack of strength in hocks resulted in very untidy rear movement.

She holds her GCDS Gold+ award and the handler is to be thoroughly commended for this dedication. As one who has dogs with Bronze (and one soon to be Silver) I understand the work involved. Teeth in neat lines. Good length of neck. Well angulated front assembly. Well bodied and good topline with tail set correctly. Ex rear angulation and strength in hocks though I would still like to see more width in rear movement. One of the very few holding the tail horizontal on the move today.

1st OAKFAYRE'S EMPRESS ETERNAL (MISS A THOMPSON)

What a beautifully made brindle girl who is full of jaunty charm and so well schooled by her handler to show off her attributes to best advantage. Loved her overall outline and balance. Perfect scissor bite. Ex eyes set close together.  Wide front with deep brisket and ex spring of rib, strong loins with slight rise over and dip to tail set. She stands out for soundness in movement with strong drive behind and ex reach in front, covering the ground effortlessly with a brisk stride. Had she been a picture that I could rescaled to a smaller size she would have been my overall BOB. Best SpBeg and pleased to see she won the Sp Beginners Group. RBB
2nd JENKIR HECATE (MR & MISS J & T JEFFS & MANN)
Slimmer build and narrower all through which made her lacking in overall substance and finer boned. I liked her head shape and her rear angulation. Sweet girl with ex temperament. And very sympathetically handled.

2nd BADLESMERE BOBBING ALONG (MR & MISS P & J FOSTER)

Almost 18 months. Slightly smaller height than 1st. Good eye and ear set with thin ears. Scissor bite. Arched neck, well covered body and creating a good outline. Was a little sluggish moving around the ring but when I asked the handler to move a little faster in her individual movement patterns this bitch began to become animated and shine.

Both of these girls had ex scissor bites. Both had high tail carriage.
1st KILTONTHORPE MIDNIGHT MOON WITH KLEWBULL (MISS K MANSELL)
Straight forelegs set wide apart, deep brisket and well ribbed. Carrying appropriate weight for her size. Black nose. Ears close together. Feet were a little splayed but she excelled in movement over 2nd.
2nd OLYMPUSBULYS MAIA (MRS J A HARPER)
Very attractive white with one eye patch. One of the closest today to the desired size. She had tighter feet than 1st but it was her movement that let her down today with very untidy movement from the rear.

1st KILTONTHORPE MIDNIGHT SUN (MRS E M WOODS)

Stood out today for being closer to the ideal size. Clean egg shaped head. She has a quality silhouette with good forechest, deep chested, well sprung ribs, ex scissor bite, long arched neck and front angulation matching rear angulation in perfect balance. Her initial promise on the stand is fulfilled on the move where she is handled perfectly on a loose lead, given her head and allowed to show off her soundness with an unassuming grace and muscular power. Has the true “piercing glint” in her eyes. Ideally I would like her to carry her tail horizontally. Preferred her size for BB & BOB.

1st JENKIR HERA (MRS J HARRISON)

Handler needs to watch more seasoned exhibitors, go to ringcraft lessons,  and gain experience as this Tri  bitch has much to appreciate when on the table. Please do not zig zag around your dog when moving it as the judge cannot see your dogs movement easily so you are not maximising your chances.  The judge needs an unobstructed view of your dog from the front, rear, and side when assessing movement. Fortunately I did see just enough to be able to place you 1st.
2nd CH RISIBULLY GIRLS ON FILM WITH FERGUSTAFF JW (MRS L J MARSHALLSAY)
Well trained freestanding bitch. Nicely balanced outline and a better size. Disappointing bite which affects the expression. Missed out on a higher place due to untidy movement at the rear.
