I was honoured and delighted to be invited to judge The Southern Miniature Bull Terrier Club’s 9th Championship Show. I am a founder member of the Club and was at the original inaugural meeting at Diane Berry’s home, Fern House in Marlow. I have been a Committee member/ Show Manager since it started in 1997 and am honoured to be the current President. The venue was great as the Show Hall had air conditioning and was a very good size. The weather was unseasonably hot at nearly 30 degrees the whole weekend. Spaces were made for competitors crates in the air conditioned corridor and in the large show hall itself as there was plenty of space. The Club provided complimentary refreshments at lunchtime to competitors and spectators. The entry of 77 including 4 NFC was excellent in the current climate of low entries for all breeds and there were only 9 absentees. I would like to thank The Miniature Bull Terrier Club for all their hard work in organising the Weekend and for working in conjunction with The Southern Miniature Bull Terrier Club to hold this very important International event for Miniature Bull Terriers in the show calendar, bringing many entries from Europe to compete against dogs and bitches from the UK. Hotel based events such as these help to encourage new people into the breed and help raise the profile of the breed. The entry was such super quality in depth, especially in the bitches. So many really good bitches with quite a few going unplaced. My Dog CC winner & BIS is one of the best Mini Dog’s I have ever judged. Big congratulations to his Breeder/owners who brought him all the way from Portugal to be shown.5

Smart 7 month black brindle and white mini puppy dog. Very balanced and good for size. Good turn to head with wicked expression and neat ears with good mouth. Needs more fill under the eye which should come with age. Needs to tighten in front. Moved better behind, toed in a bit in front. Very stylish.
2nd TILLBACH APOLLO (MRS J WILLIAMS)
Slightly bigger in size tri colour 8 months old mini puppy dog. Decent head with wicked eye but prefer head of 1. Misplaced canines. Good turn of stifle. Needs to tighten in front. Neat cat feet, preferred his feet to 1. Movement initially difficult to assess as kept trying to scratch ear on the move but he settled and toed in, in front slightly on the move.

Really typy white dog who was fairly good for size. Beautiful turned and filled head with wicked expression and really wicked eye. Mouth good. Straight front with lovely neat feet and good turn of stifle. Best mover in this class, moved parallel and with drive. Doesn’t make the most of himself and use his ears. Can stand a bit roached when not showing. In immaculate condition with sparkling white jacket. In the challenge even though Dainty Diablo is bigger I preferred his topline and movement plus Glacial Harvest was not making the most of himself.

Lovely brindle and white dog with half white head, slightly bigger than 1. Super turned and filled head which looks much better from the white side. Not as wicked expression as 1. Straight front but prefer a bit more hind angulation. Didn’t make the most of himself as a bit over awed by the occasion. Moved fairly parallel and covered the ground.

Very balanced white dog. Lovely turned head with fill and neat ears. Slight mouth fault. Really well made throughout with straight front and really well angulated quarters. Lovely reach of neck, which a lot of the minis haven’t got. Bigger in size than 2. Best mover in this class and probably best mover so far in the classes. He moved parallel and with drive. Best I’ve seen him perform with his handler.
2nd TINY AMIGO'S NIGHT KING (IMP NOR) (MRS B BOYNE)
Very neat smaller rich brindle & white dog. Lovely head with wicked eye and neat ears. Slight mouth fault. Straight front. Not as balanced as 1. Moved fairly well and covered the ground but not with the power and drive of 1. Liked his mini type and he showed really well.

Lovely mini size solid brindle showman. Really showy and smart, really balanced. Excellent turned and filled head with neat ears which he uses all the time. Slight mouth fault. Lovely reach of neck into straight front with good quarters and neat cat feet. Moved well in front, closer behind. Just lacked the power & substance in the challenge but love his mini type, also like to see him carry a bit more weight. Have awarded him a Res CC in the past.
2nd BADLESMERE BARBED WIRE AT HOWFENBULLS (MR & MRS S & N BATTEL)
Another good for size white mini dog. Not as much type as 1. Gently turned and filled head with neat ears and good eye. Straight front with neat feet and good backend. Prefer more reach of neck. Didn’t like the plastic matting so tended to hackney with an exaggerated gait, when moved to the carpet movement improved but still a bit choppy in front but fairly parallel.

Outstanding white stallion mini dog with the WOW factor. Superb head, turned and really filled, with wicked expression. Neat ears and strong underjaw. Good mouth. Lovely forechest and good reach of neck. Really well made and balanced with super quarters and straight front. Very shapely throughout. Really typy and fairly good for size. Moved parallel and with drive but not quite as freely as 2. Good showman. His coat was quite thin probably due to the hot weather in Portugal where he lives and he had some superficial blemishes on his head but it didn’t detract enough. One of the best mini dogs I have ever seen. Dog CC & BIS. This was his 3rd CC in 3 days and gained him his UK champion title. Well done to his breeder/owners for breeding such an outstanding dog . Smart upstanding typy black brindle and white dog with a sparkling jacket. More up on size than 1. Super sweeping turn to his head with good fill and wicked eye. Uses his ears well. Good mouth. Lovely reach of neck with super straight front and neat feet. Not quite the hind angulation of 1 but good enough. Balanced and well constructed with a shapely body. Best mover in this class and probably best mover in show. Moved parallel , with drive from behind and flowed freely. Not an easy dog to show as needs to show off other dogs but experienced handler got the best out of him. RDCC

8 years smart and showy brindle and white dog. A bit up on size. Nice turn of head with good underjaw and decent fill for age with neat ear set. Lovely reach of neck. Straight front with decent hind angulation. Prefer a bit shorter coupled. Covered the ground on the move and was fairly parallel. Super showman in great condition and he really enjoys being in the ring.

7 month litter sister to 1. Smaller in size. Gentle profile to head with decent fill for her age and uses her ears well.. Good bone and quite tidy all through with neat feet. Fairly straight front with decent hind angulation. A bit choppy on the move but covered the ground. Nice mini type but prefer more head.

Almost solid beautiful feminine black brindle and white bitch. Good for size and very balanced which is so difficult to breed. Good substance for size. The best head in this class. Superb head with sweeping turn and fill with lovely earset. Prefer keener eye. Good mouth. Lovely reach of neck, straight front and good hind angulation. Good construction and shapely throughout. Good mover, moved parallel and covered the ground. Super showgirl with shiny jacket. A Bull Terrier in miniature. Pleased to award her the Bitch CC and Reserve Best In Show. BCC RBIS

She was called back in to challenge for the Res CC but unfortunately she had gone home probably because it had been a long and very hot weekend.

More powerful bigger brindle and white bitch. Strong filled head but lacks turn with wicked eye. Mouth good. Seemed to have unusually thick bushy hair on her neck. Straight front. Good mover when settled, moved fairly parallel with drive. Very excitable and hard work for her handler.

More up on size but her outstanding other virtues won her this class and the Res Bitch CC today. RBCC

Good mover, moved parallel and covered the ground once on the carpet. Didn’t seem to like the plastic matting. Stands a bit wide in front and prefer keener eye but lots of other virtues to like and the second best mover in this class.

Smart upstanding typy black brindle and white dog with a sparkling jacket. More up on size than 1. Super sweeping turn to his head with good fill and wicked eye. Uses his ears well. Good mouth. Lovely reach of neck with super straight front and neat feet. Not quite the hind angulation of 1 but good enough. Balanced and well constructed with a shapely body. Best mover in this class and probably best mover in show. Moved parallel , with drive from behind and flowed freely. Not an easy dog to show as needs to show off other dogs but experienced handler got the best out of him. RDCC

Straight front with decent hind angulation. Prefer a bit shorter coupled. Covered the ground on the move and was fairly parallel. Super showman in great condition and he really enjoys being in the ring.

Stands a bit wide in front and prefer keener eye but lots of other virtues to like and the second best mover in this class.
