SOUTHERN MINIATURE BULL TERRIER CLUB - 2013
TROPHIES OCTOBER
JUDGES ELAINE CLARK & BILL LAMBERT (BL) REFEREE DOMINIC CLARK
It was a great pleasure to be invited to co-judge the SMBTC annual Trophies with Bill Lambert (Caliber) and whilst there were some minor disagreements over the runners up, we were in complete agreement over our overall winner of Miniature Bull Terrier of the year in the deliciously feminine form of Graymor Glacial Dawn who we also awarded 'Best Miniature 14” and under'.(EC)
I was delighted and honoured to be invited to judge this show with Elaine Clark and select Miniature Bull Terrier of the Year. The completion was tough, and there was very little to choose between the top exhibits in each section. Consequently my co judge and I were reliant on the referee to separate us on a number of occasions. Nevertheless I feel that we were both satisfied with the outcomes and were certainly in complete agreement when it came to choosing our overall winners. Overall I felt that the handing was very good as was the movement of most of the exhibits. At the risk of sounding like a broken record I do think that the time has come to concentrate on size; only 2 of this present were under the measure. (BL)
Best White Dog of the Year - Bullyon Cup
QUAYARDSON SIR BARCLAY AT DARLOU (MR & MRS S & A BELL)
Stood alone, this masculine cobby, well-boned white has a strong head, deep and broad with a correct mouth. Good reach of neck and correct shoulder into short back, well angulated quarters and a straight front, he moved well behind although a little close in front. (EC)
Stood alone but a handsome masculine package with lots to like. Powerful wide head, with a good expression, but just lacking a little in profile. Good strong bone, a little loose in front. Good arched neck, well ribbed, but a touch long in the loin. Well-muscled hindquarters. He moved parallel and with great freedom. (BL)
Best White Bitch of the Year - Decadance Cup
GRAYMOR GLACIAL DAWN (MR & MRS G A HUGHES)
MINIATURE BULL TERRIER OF THE YEAR
An elegant, feminine bitch of perfect size, she undoubtedly has the 'X factor' and easily passed the 'which one would you take home' test. Good head and expression with perfect mouth, well placed ears, gently sweeping arc and enough width and fill. Beautiful outline with a lovely graceful neck, correct shoulder and short back, well angulated quarters, broad chest, straight front and, the icing on the cake, it all goes under the measure. She covered the ground with ease and was parallel in both directions although, to be picky, she did show a tendency to travel at a slight angle. Pleased to be able to award her Best White Bitch, Best '14” and under' and The Miniature Bull Terrier of the Year 2013. (EC)
Very eye-catching elegant Terrier Type. Extremely well made with a lovely neck, and beautiful bodylines. She has a decent enough head, that could use a little more power, Lovely little eye and ears bang on top giving her an excellent expression. Lovely straight front with adequate bone. Beautiful neck and shoulder, shapely, well angulated quarters. Her movement whilst basically sound and true is a little odd as she tends to throw a hind leg. Nevertheless a bitch of the highest quality very well made and she is under the measure to boot! We had no hesitation in awarding her the Decadance Trophy for best white bitch and the Burgos Plaque for Best Miniature Bull Terrier of the year (BL)
Runner-up
DECADANCE DIAMOND (MR & MRS D DANCE)
A different type all together being a much more heavyweight girl, showing maximum substance for size. A stunning head with tremendous arc, width, fill and a correct mouth, she doesn't have the shoulder or topline of the winner, she moved rather close in front but very well behind. (EC)
Best Coloured Dog of the Year - SMBTC Shield
DECADANCE DEFENDER (MR M DODWELL)
Black brindle and white with huge bone and substance and, although he is indeed over the measure, he isn't as big as some may think once you get over him. Strong masculine head with width arc and fill and correct mouth, he has a good neck into an adequate shoulder and a good front, he doesn't have the shortest of backs but his quarters are strong and well angulated and he is in super condition although a little disappointing on the move behind (EC)
Brindle and white powerhouse; clearly over the measure but is typy balanced throughout. Very good head, with a deep strong jaw, a decent profile and lots of strength. Good round bone and a nice straight front with good feet. Excellent neck and well laid shoulder. Good firm topline. Powerful hindquarters. Showed and handled extremely well, his movement was rather close behind but he strode out and drove well from the rear.(BL)
Runner Up
QUAYARDSON SIR ALFRED (MRS M BENNETT)
Also Black brindle and white but of a different type, just a little shorter than the winner and not the bone and substance he is a very typy, masculine and pleasing dog. Super head with arc width and fill, excellent neck and shoulder into short back, he is an extremely active dog, right up on his toes and really makes his handler work - he moves well in both directions (EC) Also Black brindle and white but of a different type, just a little shorter than the winner and not the bone and substance he is a very typy, masculine and pleasing dog. BADLESMERE BOOKEND AT QUAYARDSON (MRS S & MS J RICHARDSON)
Well known, diminutive brindle and white, a pleasing package and well under the measure. I last judged her as a puppy and she just hasn't changed, having gently sweeping arc with width and fill, to be picky I'd like a smaller eye. Instanding canines but…nobody's perfect! Good neck into adequate shoulders with a straight front, level topline and nicely angulated quarters, she covered the ground with ease and was a pleasure to go over. She was also awarded Runner-up Miniature Bull Terrier of the Year (EC)
A most exquisite brindle and white bitch; clearly well under the measure. Very well made with a shapely head, and tiny well placed ears. Instanding canines. Her front is good and straight but a little more bone would complete the picture. Well placed shoulder, good firm topline, and well angulated quarters. Moved parallel but did not drive out. Although she has her faults this bitch is a delight, a real miniature Bull Terrier and presents an excellent overall, well balanced package. (BL)
Winner of the SMBTC Shield for Best Coloured Bitch and Runner Up overall
Runner-up
QUAYARDSON LADY BELLA (MRS S & MS J RICHARDSON)
Black brindle of a different type, oversized but with excellent bone and substance, strong head with arc, width and turn. Good neck, a little upright in shoulder but a straight front and strong quarters which she uses to advantage on the move (EC)
The Zedbees Memorial Trophy for Best Miniature Bull Terrier 14 inches or under
